And it based on basic period which generally a 12 months period preceding the year assessment<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"title2\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Example :<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Company Incorporation date is 4 September 2018<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Scenario A<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Financial year end set on 31 August 2019<\/p>\n<p>1st Year of Assessment&nbsp; : 4 September 2018&nbsp; till 31 August 2019<\/p>\n<p>2nd Year of Assessment : 1 September 2019 till 31 August 2020<\/p>\n<p>3rd Year of Assessment : 1 September 2020 till 31 August 2021<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Scenario B <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Financial year end set on 30 September&nbsp; 2019<\/p>\n<p>1st Year of Assessment&nbsp; : 4 September 2018&nbsp; till 31 December 2018<\/p>\n<p>2nd Year of Assessment : 1 January 2019 till 30 September 2019<\/p>\n<p>3rd Year of Assessment : 1 October 2019 till 31 December 2019<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">From the above scenarios, different year end fixed will general different period of year assessment which cause tax period is different.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<strong>Can I change company&#8217;s financial year end ?<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Yes but only&nbsp; the financial year end date of the current financial year end&nbsp;<strong>AND<\/strong> immediate&nbsp;previous year is allowed to be change\n<div><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Safeguards in&nbsp;application changing of financial year end:<\/strong> <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(a) Companies must notify the Registrar of their FYE upon incorporation and of any subsequent change;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(b) Unless otherwise approved by the Registrar, the duration of a company\u2019s financial year must not be more than 18 months in the year of incorporation; <\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">AND <\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(c) Companies must apply to the Registrar for approval to change their FYE if:<\/span><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&nbsp;the change in FYE results in a financial year longer than 18 months; or<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the FYE was changed within the last 5 years.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div>&nbsp;&#8220;Please note that making changes in financial year end will change deadline in filing with ACRA&#8221;<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Example 1 :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Company year end is 31 March 2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>On 31.07.2018,<\/strong> want to change FYE to 30.04.2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>Answer :<\/strong> &nbsp;Year end can be change immediately&nbsp;because NEW regulation only implement&nbsp;on 31.08.2018<\/p>\n<p><strong>On 31.12.2020<\/strong> Company want change FYE to 1.02.2021<\/p>\n<p><strong>Answer<\/strong> : NOT required to seek ACRA approval. Although this change is within 5 years of the last change of FYE ( 30.04.2019) a change of FYE <strong>before the new law<\/strong> takes effect is no taken into consideration<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<hr>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Example 2 : <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Com year end is 31 March 2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>On 31.01. 2019 ,<\/strong> want to change FYE to 30.04.2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>Answer :<\/strong> NOT required to seek ACRA approval<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>On 31.12.2020 ,<\/strong> want to change FYE to 01.02.2021<\/p>\n<p><b>Answer : Company must seek ACRA approval <strong>because this is the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> change within last 5 years of the last change FYE ( 30.04.2019) <\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<hr>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Example 3 : <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last AR shown Com year end is 31.03.2019 so its next FYE should be 31.03.2020<\/p>\n<p><strong>On 31.01. 2020 ,<\/strong> want to change FYE to 31.12.2020<\/p>\n<p><strong>Answer :<\/strong> Com must seek ACRA approval <strong>because this will result financial year end MORE THAN<\/strong> 18 months( from 01.04.2019 to 31.12.2020)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<hr>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Example 4 : <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last AR shown Com year end is 31.03.2021 so its next FYE should be 31.03.2022<\/p>\n<p><strong>On 10.11.2025 w<\/strong>ant to change FYE from 31.03.2022 to 31.12.2022<\/p>\n<p><strong>Answer :<\/strong> Com NOT ALLOWED to do that because it can only change its previous and current financial year end<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;Please click here for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acra.gov.sg\/CA2017_AGM_FAQ\/\">FAQ<\/a> of financial year end .<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Financial Year End&nbsp; ?
